Adjusting to a New Culture

Our Integration Issues Series and capstone conference integrate students into the academic culture of Northwestern University and daily life in the USA.

The Integration Issues conference is an all day event in the third week of the program. Students discuss topics such as teaching, academic integrity, and working with advisors and mentors. Over lunch, students meet to discuss the unique academic culture of that department. In the afternoon, students make a short research presentation and receive feedback from their peers and ISI instructors on their efforts.

The Integration Issues sessions present strategies for adjusting to daily life in the USA as an international student. Topics include apartment hunting, transportation, safety, food, shopping, health and wellness, and more. Students integrate and practice the strategies presented by the instructor through interactive language activities.
