Support for improving English proficiency, right at the start of your graduate program
Integrated Academic Skills programming consists of multiple English language services for new PhD or MFA students who need extra support in developing their proficiency in spoken English. Enrollment in this program is based on students’ performance on their initial Versant test, and is required by The Graduate School for those students selected to participate. The program provides students with the opportunity to improve their language skills in preparation for fulfilling The Graduate School’s English proficiency requirement.
Integrated Academic Skills is designed for students in their first two quarters of a PhD or MFA program. In the fall quarter, students in the program will enroll in their choice of three IAS sections of Linguistics 380, as well as the individual Tutoring program, and the NativeAccent Speech Training software program. At the end of fall quarter, students will have the opportunity to take the Versant test again. Based on their score, some students will be enrolled in Integrated Academic Skills again in winter quarter.
