Pre-Professional Studies

Your undergraduate years as a student in Northwestern's Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences should be a time of exploration - a time to learn about new areas of study, to meet new people, to discover and practice new ways of thinking about the world. In addition, it's a time to prepare for the next stages of your life. This often involves exploring possible careers and, at the same time, acquiring the experiences that will put you in a good position for pursuing those careers you find most appealing. Information is available online for students considering careers in the health professions (including medicine and dentistry), in law, and in the world of business. You can also find lots of useful information on career choices and preparation through Career Services; group sessions, individual meetings with career counselors, and reading through the resources available on their webpage are all approaches you may find to be very helpful. Volunteering can be another way for you to learn about potential career tracks, as can tackling research and other hands-on projects. Also, keep in mind that faculty advisers in various departments can be good sources of career-related advice.
